Afghanistan Receives First Batch of Military Aid from China

nsnbc : China delivered the first batch of military aid to Afghanistan in an effort to help the country fight terrorism. The batch of Chinese military equipment was delivered by a Russian cargo plane and handed to Afghanistan’s National Security Adviser Hanif Atmar by Chinese Ambassador Yao Jing.

China’s Ambassador Jing addressed reporters, saying that China wants to have normal bilateral relations with the government of Afghanistan and its people. This includes military cooperation, he added. Jing said:

“Afghanistan is our close neighbor and a very important neighbor to China. … So, this is the beginning of our regular military-to-military exchanges and cooperation.”

Atmar, for his part, declined to comment on details about the value or specifics of the Chinese aid, saying that this was a matter of security. Atmar added, however, that the aid shows that China and Afghanistan share their resolve against the terrorism that threatens both countries. Atmar added:

“The military aid is just the beginning of our joint struggle against terrorism. I consider it a major change in China’s relations towards Afghanistan that China is standing with the Afghan people in the counterterrorism fight.”

The Afghan National Security Adviser noted that the next delivery was due later this year and would include equipment such as scanners for Afghanistan’s police that would enable them to detect bombs and vehicle born improvised explosive devices.

The latter must be greeted welcome by Afghani police after they previously had been equipped with a bogus “wand” that had absolutely no function and arguably cost the lives of scores of ordinary people as well as police officer who put their lives on the line. Similar bogus devices were sold to Iraq, the Philippines, Thailand and Mexico, and in part with the endorsement of British government officials. Ambassador Jing added:

“Both China and Afghanistan, we don’t have any ambitions … But we do have our own duty to safeguard our own peace and the sovereignty. So, in this regard China and Afghanistan are on the same front. We will fight together.”

China_Uyghur_ISIS_CIA_NEOChina is faced with an increase in terrorism from militant Islamist Uyghur insurgents who, according to independent investigations have links to Turkey’s notorious Grey Wolves, a network that is notorious for its links to Turkish and NATO intelligence networks. Uyghur militants have also been linked to terrorist attacks in Thailand and other Asian countries. Uyghur fighters are also known for their presence among Islamic State fighters in Syria and Iraq.

China is part of a Quadrilateral Cooperation Group or QCG, which also includes Afghanistan, Pakistan and the United States. The  group is deeply split with regard to the approach to bringing peace and security of Afghanistan and the respective constituents position on peace talks with the Taliban. working to bring about a peaceful end to the Afghan conflict. But the four-nation process has been unable to start peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.
