The 25-year-old Gambian who, on 2 January, damaged a shrine containing the statue of the Madonna in the external courtyeard of the Parish of the Madonna of the Rosary and set fire to a crib has been expelled from Italy. He justified his act by reference to his Muslim faith.

When he was caught trying to flee the scene, he said it was his duty as a Muslim to destroy Christian symbols.
