After Super Bowl Controversy, NFL Issues SHOCKING Anti-Christian Threat To State

This year’s Super Bowl was full of controversy after pop “artist” Beyoncé performed a racist and anti-police halftime show, but apparently that wasn’t enough for the league. After hearing a state is about to pass a religious liberty law, the NFL issued an absolutely shocking threat in response.

Georgia, where the Atlanta Falcons play, is considering the passage of House Bill 757, which would allow faith-based groups to practice their beliefs without interference from the government, which means that a Christian couldn’t be forced to bake a gay wedding cake, for example. Meanwhile, Atlanta has put in a bid to host a future Super Bowl, so guess what the league is doing to force the hand of legislators.

If you guessed they threatened to take Atlanta out of consideration, you’d be right. In a prepared statement, spokesman Brian McCarthy said that if the governor signed the religious freedom bill would all but guarantee that Georgia wouldn’t be holding any Super Bowls.

“NFL policies emphasize tolerance and inclusiveness, and prohibit discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other improper standard,” said McCarthy’s statement. “Whether the laws and regulations of a state and local community are consistent with these policies would be one of many factors NFL owners may use to evaluate potential Super Bowl host sites.”

Atlanta, whose new Falcons stadium is set to open in 2017, had hoped to host a Super Bowl in 2019 or 2020. The bill could put a kink in those plans if it’s signed into law by Gov. Deal. On top of the language on faith-based groups, the bill ensures that pastors cannot be forced to preside over same-sex marriage ceremonies, and that individuals cannot be forced to attend these ceremonies.

In other words, it applies common sense enforcement of First Amendment protections. Unfortunately, in its endless quest to be politically correct while caving to the demands of the far-left, the NFL doesn’t see it that way.

As a result, it’s using the economic power of the Super Bowl to hold the state hostage. Apparently, the right of Christians to openly practice their beliefs isn’t important to the league and its leadership, but Bobby being able to marry Peter is.

Given the NFL’s audience, this probably isn’t going to sit too well with too many people, and it’s hard to blame them. After all, the First Amendment states that the government isn’t allowed to force people to act against their religious beliefs, and the Georgia law merely protects those rights, yet the NFL is strongly opposed to it.
