Tears glistened in the eyes of the soldiers and visitors to Ammunition Hill in Jerusalem as the site of one of the fiercest battles of the Six-Day War provided a background for the flames of the Menorah.
Rabbi Chaim Levy lights the Menorah
The site, known in Hebrew as Giv’at HaTahmoshe, was one of the spots chosen to host the celebration of lighting all eight candles of the menorah on the concluding night of Chanukah in honour of Sydney benefactor Harry Triguboff who has funded the site’s entrance plaza.
Rabbi Chaim and Chana Levy
In pouring rain and standing on the ground which symbolizes heroism, sacrifice and victory, guests broke out in song and danced in the light of the Chanukah candles.
The event concluded with a prayer for a future without war, and for a world of peace.
The event was hosted by Rabbi Chaim and Chana Levy and attended by the site’s CEO, Keteri Maoz and the director of the Harry Oscar Trigoboff Institute, Shalom Norman. Knesset member Elazar Stern sent a video greeting.
Former Sydneysider, Chana Levy is the daughter of Rabbi Dr Dovid and Laya Slavin who run Our Big Kitchen.
