Amnesty International criticise Turkey for shooting at Syrian refugees

According to reports, Ankara refused to allow wounded civilians from Syria enter their country, whilst Turkish border guards attacked refugees, forcing them to seek aid from illegal carriers.

Pravdareport.com reports:

“There have been many reports of incidents on the border. We collected information on this as early as 2014, when we received many reports of people being shot when they were trying to cross the border irregularly,” Amnesty International’s Andrew Gardner said.

“Now, the information we received via Syria doctors is that there are reports of two or three people being shot every day trying to cross the border irregularly,” he added.

According to the official, Ankara says that the borders are open, but Amnesty International has documented the opposite.

According to Frontex, European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders of the Member States of the European Union, as many as 68,000 migrants arrived to the EU from Turkey in January 2016.

This is 38 times as much as in January 2015.
