An East Coast meteor deserves a Fireball cocktail

On March 22, around 8 p.m., a meteor streaked across the New England skies, apparently prompting hundreds of reports to the American Meteor Society (who knew?). Witnesses from North Carolina to Maine reported the phenomenon, and it was viewed as far west as Ohio. You can view the meteor here.

As additional analysis and security camera images of the celestial invader have come to light, Robert Lunsford of the AMS has speculated that the glowing space rock is best classified as a “fireball.” That is, a larger-than-average meteor (most are pebble sized) that produces an especially bright light. Obviously, we need a drink:

Fireball Meteor Shot
(Robert Haynes-Peterson)

  • .75 oz Fireball Whisky
  • .75 oz Kahlua Midnight
  • .75 oz Heavy Cream

In a large shot glass, layer whisky, Kahlua and cream. Throw it back like a softball-sized rock blazing through the night sky.
