Arab MKs suspended from Israeli Knesset

Days of Palestine, Jerusalem -Israeli occupation Knesset’s Ethics Committee suspended three Arab MKs over visiting families of Palestinian victims killed by Israeli occupation forces. 

Two out of the three MKs, Haneen Zoabi and Basel Ghattas, were suspended from attending meetings of the Knesset and its committees for four months, while the third MK Jamal Zahalka will be suspended for two months.

All of the three Joint List members faced this racial disciplinary action after meeting with families of Palestinian were murdered by Israeli forces, as well as praised Palestinian resistance of the illegal Israeli occupation.

Responding to this racial action, the Joint List issued a statement rejecting the decision to suspend the MKs, and condemned “the campaign of incitement led by [Israeli PM Benjamin] Netanyahu, which led to the miserable, anti-democratic and unethical decision of the committee.”

The statement also said: “The vengeful punishment will not deter us and we will continue fighting against policies of racism and fascism, and in favour of true equality and true democracy, which Netanyahu is trying with all of his power to destroy.”

In a separate remark, on behalf of the suspended MKs, Zahalka said: “We know we are paying a political price for an ethical position,” noting that his party would approach international bodies about the suspension.
