Atlanta Police Officer Pulls Baton On 16 Year Old Girl For No Reason

For those who may not know me, I am a Atlanta based community activist and advocate for the uplifting of my community. I am also known in the community for holding our local police departments accountable for their actions, since Atlanta has little to no police transparency and/or accountability.

On October 9th 2015 I was approached by a woman who advised me that a male had pulled a bat on her. I later learned that the person in question was an Atlanta Police Officer. I had to learn more, because looking at the size of this young girl it was clear as day that she was not a threat to anyone.

If an Atlanta Police Officer pulled a baton on her without good cause, I intend to get to the root of the problem and get corrupt officers off of our streets. After listening to parts of the story, I realized that the young minor was leaving a few things out, but regardless of the fact this Atlanta Police Officer has NO grounds to pull out a bat. She wore form fitting clothing so you could tell that she didn’t bear any weapons. It was evident that the teen used some choice words to the police officer, the officer got PISSED OFF and pulled out a bat.

As a PRIVATE CITIZEN I am allowed to ask any questions I want. Now whether the officer answers my questions or not is another story. But I wanted to do my due-diligence and identify the officer, get his version of what took place, before making unnecessary complaint on an officer.

I still believe the officer was in violation, but hey when you’re a cop, you a trained to use the bullshit catch all cop out excuse “I fear for my life”

Part 2: I asked Sgt. Reginald Pettis if I could speak with him so I could get some additional information on the officer who pulled a baton on a 16 year old small girl. Sgt. Reginald Pettis identified the officer as Officer W. Riggins. I then asked for his badge number and Pettis said he didn’t know it. I then requested if Sgt. Reginald Pettis would raise the officer (contact him on the radio) and Sgt. Pettis replied, “I am not going to raise him”

I then informed Sgt. Reginald Pettis that how he handled that situation was not cool. I then gave him a quick rundown what happened. I informed Sgt. Pettis that I will continue to make it my business to be involved with the safety and well being of members in my community.

Next, Sgt. Pettis being irate, unreasonable and very confrontational, had completely lost his cool and started shouting for me to stop talking to him etc. I continued to advise him that if he or any other officer violates someone’s constitutional rights I will document it, send them to internal affairs etc.
