Police are searching for a gunman who shot and killed an Australian man at a holiday resort in the northern Philippines.

Paul Dean Davy, 53, was shot in the back of the head with a .45 calibre pistol while he was talking to another Australian at the Blue Rock Beach Resort in Olongapo, north-west of Manila.

Media quoted Olongapo police officer Tyrone Tecson as saying Davy was shot “in the middle portion of the Blue Rock restaurant, in the customer-receiving area”.

“When we arrived, there was still lots of customers,” Tecson was quoted as saying.

Davy, who is believed to be from Brisbane, was the general manager of the resort.

He was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Police are yet to determine a motive, but believe Davy knew his killer.

The suspect is described as a man of Filipino appearance, aged between 30 and 35, who was wearing a blue cap and glasses.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has confirmed the incident.

“We can confirm the death of a 53-year-old man in the Philippines,” a spokeswoman said.
