BBC Drops Terms “BC” and “AD” to Avoid Offending Non-Christians

One of the BBC’s most high-profile presenters has vowed to continue using the terms BC and AD despite claims the Corporation has barred it the term to avoid offending non-Christians.

Andrew Marr told how he had no plans to change the terminology he used.

When asked yesterday if he was now using the obscure modern terms Common Era and Before Common Era, Marr replied: ‘I’m not.’

He went on: ‘I say AD and BC because that’s what I understand.  I don’t know what the Common Era is. Why is it the Common Era in 20AD and it wasn’t the Common Era in 20BC?’

Mr Marr made his comments to fellow journalists Polly Toynbee and Matthew Parris on his own programme, The Andrew Marr Show.
