Awake Goy Days of Palestine, Jerusalem –Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) is not threat to ‘Israel,’ but to the whole free world, Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan has claimed.
“BDS should not be seen as a threat only to Israel,” he told foreign ambassadors on Tuesday in Tel-Aviv, “it is a threat to the international community, to your own countries, and to all who value human rights and freedoms.”
Erdan, who spoke about human rights, forgot that the representative of his occupational state to the UN Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) Eviatar Manor had ridiculed it last week, saying it needs psychiatric help.
The Israeli security official, who is in charge of Israeli governemnt’s efforts to fight BDS, said that the main goal of the BDS is to destroy the Israeli occupation, ignoring the fact that the BDS is fighting for justice and freedoms.
“To achieve their objective,” he claimed, “activists bully international companies operating in Israel, attack stores selling Israeli goods, threaten universities hosting Israeli speakers, and intimidate artists planning to perform in Israel.
“These tactics are accompanied by anti-Israel propaganda so vicious it would make history’s greatest anti-Semites proud.”
Addressing the ambassadors, he claimed: “The BDS is also a threat to each and every one of you. It is a threat to all who care about democracy, human rights and a viable Israeli-Palestinian peace.”
He also said that the BDS is a “direct threat to the idea of universal human rights,” accusing them of being “hypocrite” and enemy of human rights. “This hypocrisy not only undermines the basic idea of universal rights and standards,” he said, “but harms the effectiveness of the entire international system.”
The boycott movement also jeopardizes the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. “It signals to the Palestinian leadership that there is no need for them to engage in difficult negotiations or make painful compromises. They can just wait for the BDS movement to force Israel to give in to their demands.”
