Belarus Ambassador Vladimir Skortsov presented the book 250 People From Belarus in the Dialogue of Cultures to Nehemia Peres. One of the articles in the book is dedicated to Nehemia Peres’ father — Shimon Peres, ardent Zionist, Israeli expansionist, the ninth president of Israel and not surprisingly, a Nobel peace laureate.

During the meeting the ambassador drew attention to the intensified contacts between the parliaments and government agencies of Belarus and Israel as well as to positive dynamics in mutual trade. The sides discussed preparations for major events, including the forthcoming session of the Belarusian-Israeli trade and economic cooperation committee, which is due in May. Possible avenues of cooperation in information technologies and other areas were also mentioned.

Vladimir Skvortsov told Nehemia Peres about the unprecedented conditions for IT industry development in Belarus enabled by the recent Digital Economy Development Ordinance. Thanks to the fact new opportunities for bilateral cooperation with Israel have become available, including opportunities for the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation.

Nehemia Peres also runs the Pitango Venture Capital Company (support for Israeli startups early on). He noted that he intends to visit Belarus this year and hold a number of business meetings in order to establish contacts between the two countries in the sphere of innovations. During the meeting the available potential for Belarus-Israel cooperation in education and history affairs was emphasized, including the studying and preservation of the memory of tragic events of World War Two.

Nehemia Peres said he would like to organize a presentation of his father’s autobiographic book No Room for Small Dreams in Belarus. A Russian translation of the book is getting ready to be published. Nehemia Peres presented an English copy of the book to Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York in September 2017.
