Blast rattles Jakarta embassy in Paris

On Wednesday, an embassy employee discovered a suspicious package and removed it from the building in Rue Cortambert.

“Windows at the embassy are broken. There are no Indonesian casualties among citizens or staff working at the embassy,” Indonesia’s Chief Political and Security Minister Djoko Suyanto said.

Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said he cannot yet confirm if the embassy was the target of the explotion.

“We are yet to ascertain whether the explosion was actually directed against the Indonesian embassy or whether it was by coincidence that it was located … by the embassy.”

“We have cooperated with the Paris police to secure the embassy and to investigate the explosion,” he added.

In October 2004, a bomb exploded outside the Indonesian embassy in Paris, injuring 10 people including embassy staff.
