The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee called the Obama administration’s plan to fight the Islamic State group “unsettling.”
Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, slammed the administration for sending the requested report “Strategy for the Middle East and to Counter Violent Extremism” five weeks past its Feb. 15 due date. The report was a requirement of Section 1222 of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2016.
“As we have unfortunately come to expect from this Administration, the seven page document fails to provide much new information and fails to address all the elements required by law, such as identifying which groups must be engaged to counter violent extremism,” Thornberry’s statement read.
The chairman called the State and Defense Departments’ failures to submit the document to the committee prior to Defense Sec. Ash Carter’s recent testimony “unfortunate” because they were not able to question the top Pentagon official on the plan his agency helped to craft, Washington Examiner reported.
The House Armed Services Committee is now prepping its FY 2017 NDAA and said the White House’s minimal plan to defeat the Islamic State leaves “our troops in the wilderness with a compass, but no map.”
“Failing to comply with the report deadline represents more than a failure of strategic vision for the White House. It is a lost opportunity for the Administration and Congress to work together on a common approach to face this threat,” Thornberry wrote following the initial missed deadline in February.
“It is unsettling to know that this report may reflect the actual depth of strategic thought within the Administration on how to face this grave threat,” he said.
Thornberry has been repeatedly critical of the Obama administration’s policy on the Islamic State group, Conservative Tribune reports. In this 2015 interview, he explained that he believed the United States wasn’t winning against the terrorist organization.

Wilmot Proviso at Conservative Tribune points out that it’s wholly inconceivable that, after being given massive amount of time to submit a congressionally required report on how they plan to defeat the Islamic State group, they delivered a seven-page document five weeks late.
That’s 1.4 pages for every week late. At only seven pages, I’ve written longer papers in one night for my 6th grade social studies class. Not only that, I bet they were better.
Lol.
The inattention to the Islamic State group — and to the congressional committees practicing oversight on on it — that the Obama administration is engaging in is tantamount to treason. Just this week, two Americans died in the attack on Brussels carried out by terrorists connected to the Islamic State group.
Even if it were just those two — and it hasn’t been — those two Americans deserved better than seven pages. Their families deserved better than seven pages. All of America deserves better than seven pages.
The entire planet deserves better.
Soon, Obama will be gone but his path of destruction will be with us for decades if not forever.
