The campaign version of Trump is the Trump we need in the White House.
Has the man we voted for finally returned?
Donald Trump was in Iowa today to deliver a speech reminiscent of the speeches he gave on the campaign trail. He summarized some of his accomplishments and touched upon various subjects including the border wall, immigration, tax cuts and infrastructure. He also bashed the fake news media and mocked Democrat losses in the special elections. It was a straightforward speech with numerous off the cuff and sarcastic remarks. It was basically the old Trump we saw throughout 2015 and 2016.
He specifically confirmed that he’s looking at building a border wall with solar panels. This would be a terrific idea because the wall would not only serve as a security mechanism but as a revenue and energy generating asset. The Democrats would look like idiots to oppose this considering their political stance on solar energy.
He talked about strengthening rules against immigrants accessing welfare.
He discussed the prospect of blocking entry to people who are unable to sustain themselves financially.
While it is doubtful Trump will ever go as hardcore as we want on immigration, his proposals are definite steps in the right direction.
We obviously have our disagreements with Trump, but we also have lots of common ground with his “Make America Great Again” agenda. He might have gotten off track with the Syria fiasco but it looks as if he is moving back towards what got him elected in the first place.
Now we just need to see more tangible results. We specifically want that damn border wall funded and we want it built ASAP!
We definitely need to maintain a healthy dose of skepticism with Trump, but it does appear as if he is trying to do many of the things he promised. He deserves credit for this especially since we don’t know everything that’s been going on behind the scenes. For all we know, there might have been blackmail, coercion and threats directed at him and his family. Then there’s this Russia kookspiracy fiasco.
All we can do is see what happens from here but this speech was an overall net positive. He should do at least one of these campaign styled speeches every month to reconnect with the people.
