Caught on Video: Cop Shoots Man 7 Times, Killing Him Outside of a Convenience Store

Huntington Beach, CA – A video was recently uploaded to Twitter showing a Huntington Beach police officer shooting a man in a convenience store parking lot.

According to reports from local news, police were called to the scene after a man was making a disturbance.

As KTLA reports:

A Huntington Beach Police Department spokeswoman said the officer contacted a male individual outside the 7-Eleven at 6012 Edinger Ave. and they “got into an altercation.” Then an officer-involved shooting occurred and the male was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries, police spokeswoman Officer Angie Bennett said

The short video of the deadly altercation shows an HBPD officer struggling on the ground with a man. After the brief altercation, both men stand up and you can hear a succession of 7 rounds being fired from the officer’s pistol.

While at the time the shots are fired, the officer does not appear to be in any fatal danger, it is unknown at this time whether or not the man was armed and police aren’t releasing many details. According to ABC7

Authorities said they were not releasing details of what led up to the confrontation or how the officer came in contact with the suspect.

At this time, officials can only confirm that the officer involved wasn’t injured, and the suspect was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. However, according to an eyewitness account from the LA Times:

The bystander who captured the video told The Times that he was in his car when he saw a police officer backing his cruiser out of the 7-Eleven parking lot. The officer stopped and flashed his headlights at a man dressed in dark clothing. When the officer got out of his vehicle and approached, the man swung at the officer.

The bystander said he lost sight of the pair momentarily, then saw the officer standing over the man. That’s when he began recording the episode.

Below is the video of the fatal altercation (Warning, graphic content)

The short clip is reminiscent of the killing of Walter Scott, who in April of 2015 was shot in the back while posing no threat to Charleston Police Officer Michael Slager.

As the Free Thought Project previously reported, Walter Scott was murdered by North Charleston police officer, Michael Slager. Scott’s arrest happened after he fled the scene of a traffic stop where he was being cited for a broken tail light. Michael Slager pleaded guilty to the shooting of Scott in May of this year.

Despite his guilty plea, Slager’s trial resulted in a mistrial, while Scott’s family received a $6.5 million settlement at taxpayers expense.

While this injustice may seem unusual, the sad fact is that it is extremely common. According to a report from the Pittsburgh Tribune Review:

Police in the United States managed to escape prosecution when facing allegations they violated civil rights an incredible 96 percent of the time. This is almost the exact opposite of the conviction rate for everyone else, as normal citizens are are prosecuted at a rate of 93 percent.

It’s time for all Americans to demand their public servants be held to the same standard as the people they claim to ‘serve’ & ‘protect’.

Edit: A longer version of the video shows part of the skirmish that took place before the shooting. The man walks toward the officer and seen struggling with him on the ground. He then appears to grab a small black object out of the duty belt of the cop. It’s not yet confirmed what the object is.

UPDATE: The small black object was the police officer’s magazine he grabbed from his belt in the scuffle.
