Judicial Watch (JW), a Christian conservative organization founded by Larry Klayman who is also a long-standing member of the Council For National Policy (CNP), have announced they are suing the Obama administration in order to obtain documents from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on the department’s “methodology for collecting and interpreting data used in climate models.”
This suit was inspired by Congressman Lamar Smith’s refutation of the idea that global warming has paused, based on research performed by NOAA.
Ginger Pinholster, chief of communications with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), explained that the NOAA study “went through 2 rounds of peer review by other scientists in the field before it was accepted in May. The number of outside reviewers was larger than usual, and the time from submission to online publication was about 50 percent longer than the journal’s average of 109 days.”
Because this study undercuts the Republican climate denial stance, JW submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FIOA) request 2 months ago. And when NOAA did not respond, JW decided to file a suit to obtain “atmospheric satellite temperature readings”.
Smith noted that climatologists and NOAA understand that satellite data is “unreliable”.
Ciaran Clayton, spokesperson for NOAA, told the press that the agency “has already provided all the data and methodology it says its scientists used in the study.”
