Clashes leave dozens dead in Yemen

Twenty- nine Yemenis including seventeen soldiers were killed when suspected militants attacked army positions in the town of Mallah, an official said Saturday.

Yemeni military officials added that the air force and ground troops are shelling an army post taken over by the militants.

Two army tanks and several vehicles have reportedly been destroyed in the clashes and several soldiers have also been taken hostage.

On Friday, militants sabotaged a 320-kilometer gas pipeline in south of Yemen. The pipeline attack came shortly after two US drone strikes in eastern Yemen, killing seven people.

An official at Azzan hospital said six people in a car travelling in the opposite direction of the targeted vehicle were also wounded.

The US military uses drones in Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Iraq, and Yemen.
