White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was caught hiding “behind bushes on the White House grounds for several minutes on Tuesday evening as staffers sought to respond to the frenzy of media questions about President Donald Trump’s abrupt firing of FBI Director James Comey.”

After giving Fox News an interview, Spicer hid in between 2 hedges and was discovered as he emerged from the shrubs and offered to take press questions off camera. Spicer told the journalists present: “Just turn the lights off. Turn the lights off. We’ll take care of this. … Can you just turn that light off?”

In his stead Sarah Huckabee Sanders, deputy press secretary spoke on camera to multiple news outlets, conducting interviews and taking questions about Donald Trump’s seemingly abrupt decision to fire Comey a few short hours prior.

When asked by CBS why Trump seemingly changed his stance on Comey regarding Hillary Clinton’s emails when he praised the now former director of the FBI for his actions at the time, Huckabee said: “He lost the confidence of the rank and file members of the FBI, both members of the House and Senate – from both parties. And frankly, the American people had lost confidence in his ability to do the job.”

Huckabee explained that Comey’s testimony last week caused his credibility to be hurt and deflected to a hypothetical about Hillary Clinton when asked if Comey’s firing had anything to do with the on-going investigation into Russia.

Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway took the confidence narrative Huckabee presented on a different path when she told CNN that Comey had lost the confidence of Trump and that was the reason for Comey’s termination.

Conway told Anderson Cooper: “[Trump] has lost confidence in the FBI director and he took the recommendation of Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general to whom the FBI director reports to.”

Cooper then went on to press Conway, saying that Senator Chuck Schumer’s comments are “essentially saying this is a cover up.”

Conway denied that Comey’s firing is a cover up and quoted the letter Trump wrote to Comey wherein Trump thanked the former FBI director for allegedly telling him on “3 separate occasions” that he was not under investigation by the FBI for possible collusion with Russia during the 2016 election.

And yet that conflicts with Comey’s testimony last week before the Congress wherein he affirmed that the FBI is investigating Trump and his associates with regard to last year’s election and their ties to Russia.

Conway later admitted in the interview with CNN that Trump began to lose confidence in Comey last week – the same timeframe when Comey revealed Trump was the subject of an on-going FBI investigation.

Another curious fact surrounding Comey’s firing and Trump’s underlying conduct in regard to the former FBI director is that days before his termination, Comey “sked the Justice Department for a significant increase in resources for the bureau’s investigation into Russia’s interference in the presidential election.”

Journalists Matthew Rosenberg and Matt Apuzzo revealed that Comey had directly asked the deputy attorney general (who recommended to Trump that Comey be fired) for those resources.

And then there’s the grand jury subpoenas that federal prosecutors have issued to Michael Flynn, former National Security Adviser. The court is asking Flynn to turn over business records in conjunction with an investigation into Russia’s manipulation of our last election.

The US Attorney’s Office in Virginia issued those subpoenas as an attempt to collect information concerning “possible wrongdoing in how Flynn handled disclosures about payments from clients tied to foreign governments including Russia and Turkey.”
