Copblock Radio EP 125: “Holiday Harassment”

This week on Copblock Radio our hosts were myself (Severin Freeman) from Lehigh Valley Copblock, Matt Taylor of Carbon County Copblock, Scott Marshall from The Oath Accountability Project, and Rick Gonzalez of Allentown Copblock. Due to a glitch in Google Hangouts, we discovered while we were live in LRN.FM, we did not broadcast to YouTube. As a result, the video of the show was lost, but we managed to recover the audio version. We apologize for this & will get our shit together for the next show.

We opened the show with our special guest, Andrew Minn of Minnesota Copblock. We’ve been trying to get Andrew on the show for quite some time, but he is a very busy man. Andrew shared his July 4th experience of getting the opportunity to confront a cop about killing someone. Sadly, the cop was nonchalant and claimed “it feels good to be alive.”

After Andrew left, we talked about our own July 4th activities including our special show, Copblocking, & the burning of the thin blue line flags. The special highlight was the creation of the 360 Checkpoint Video. For the first time, you can see what it’s like to go through a checkpoint as the passenger of a Copblocker without having to physically get involved. You can read more about the experience here.

Next, we had an impromptu video call with Amanda Bergquist from Minnesota Copblock. She was out Copblocking & hoped to be able to capture something live with us. A few minutes later, she did! We were able to watch live as cops arrested/harassed a homeless person and Amanda interviewing the snitch that called it in.

In between Amanda’s copblocking, we introduced our sponsor of the night: Bob’s Ball Bag Wonder Emporium! Interested in becoming a sponsor? Send us a message on our Facebook Page or shoot an email to [email protected] Reserve your spot today!

During the next segment, we revealed that our lawsuit has officially been filed! We read a few excerpts from the documents & recapped the events that led up to it. We also announced our Douche-bag of the Week: Corporal Leonard Shepulski! For the 2nd week in a row, Shepulski has earned our disrespect. This time, he went out of his way to shine a light in my face & almost hit Rick with his car in an attempt to block our filming. You can watch the video here.

When we came back from our long break, we discussed the Fuck Your Badge Challenge thrown down by Ademo Freeman over the weekend. Of course, we had to participate and took the opportunity to do so during “independence” day. This led us into the PINAC article about someone being arrested for burning a flag.

We ended the show with two breaking news stories that spawned off the series of front page news events all this week. The first was the murder of Philando Castile in Minnesota. The second was the murder of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge. Both men were shot point-blank several times by police officers for no reason– Castile was a passenger in a vehicle and notified the officers he was reaching for his wallet, Sterling was already being held down by police with both of his hands clearly restrained.

Tune in  July 13, 2016 for a new episode of Copblock Radio! We air 10pm EST on LRN.fm or at copblock.org/show. Subscribe to the Youtube channel for alerts when we go live. Download the LRN.fm app to hear our radio feed. As always, remember: badges don’t grant extra rights!
