Cop’s bodycamera captures his own murder

Rookie cop shot by gunman, bodycam captures events

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (INTELLIHUB) — Some police departments are now requiring their officers to wear bodycameras that may later serve as evidence in unique situations like shootings and hot pursuits.

On Dec. 27, 2014, Tyler Stewart, a rookie Flagstaff police officer, 24, was shot and killed by Robert Smith, 28, a man known to police, during a domestic call, and the event was all captured by the officer’s lapel camera.

The footage and audio showed that smith fired a .22 cal. revolver at Stewart at point-blank range, unloading all 6 rounds from the tumbler.

Nine seconds later Smith took his own life with the officer’s service weapon.

Stewart was on the force “less than one year”, according to the report.

The full video was never made public due to the graphic nature.

The motive remains unknown.
