Dahlan kicks off succession to Abass

The former head of the Preventive Security Forces in Gaza, Mohammed Dahlan, gave a telephone interview to Associated Press in which he claimed to be at the service of his people.

During the Washington-brokered Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, Tel Aviv wished to sign the Memorandum of Understanding with a rehauled Fatah, chaired by Mohammed Dahlan.

Dahlan, 52, was banned from Palestine by President Abbas, 79 years. He shares his time between the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, where he is close to General Al- Sissi. He raises funds for the Palestinians and has recently given $ 8 million for the refugees in Lebanon.

Dahlan, who had led the Fatah forces in the inter-Palestinian war of 2007, lost the control of Gaza to Hamas. He later fled to Egypt, where General Al-Sissi then directed the military secret service. The Islamist Brotherhood ransacked his office and found his correspondence with the State of Israel, in particular a document in which he testified to be preparing to assassinate Yasser Arafat using his own method.

According to Nabil Shaath, an adviser to President Abbas, Mohammed Dahlan has allegedly concluded a secret agreement with Hamas, to which he is said to have paid hundreds of millions of dollars. In late January, three of his deputies were granted the right to return to Gaza where they are working with Hamas to build a new town funded by the UAE.
