Deportations Higher Under Obama Than Trump

Despite making many promises during his campaign to solve the illegal immigration problem, Donald Trump’s efforts to deport illegal aliens have proven completely lackluster.

During 2016 fiscal year, the Obama administration deported 240,255 illegals. As of September 9, just three weeks before the end of the 2017 fiscal year, the Trump administration has only deported 211,068.

Curiously, though, ICE arrests have skyrocketed. According to the agency, arrests have increased by 43 percent compared to the same period last year. This indicates that Trump administration has no trouble finding illegal immigrants (unsurprising, given how many of them there are), but cannot seem to manage removing them from the country.

There are many reasons for this. First and foremost, the Trump presidency has galvanized advocacy groups and pro-bono law firms that represent illegal immigrants. The SPLC, for example, has opened four new offices in towns with large ICE deportation centers. Moreover, the increased number of arrests has put a strain on the legal system; as such, many of the illegals arrested by ICE won’t face deportation for years.

The inability to deport illegal immigrants does not bode well for President Trump, who was seen as a last-ditch effort to save America through the ballot box. While it’s true that border crossings have decreased since he took office, this is only a temporary effect; it’s going to take serious, lasting measures to reverse America’s ongoing demographic shift – a process that will only lead to civilizational decline.
