Did You Know AHCA Will Raise Deductibles, Drop 13M from Insurance & Kill Jobs?

The Republicans are hell-bent on passing the American Health Care Act (AHCA); a disastrous bill that is wildly unpopular for a plethora of reasons that are being ignored.

For example, the AHCA will kill jobs, according to analysis by the George Washington University’s Milken Institute School of Public Health and the Commonwealth Fund project.

In fact it is estimated that 924,000 jobs will be lost in the AHCA is passed because of tax repeal policies written into the bill.
• Phasing out Medicaid expansion by restricting eligibility by 2020, blocking grants and per capita caps
• Implementing age-based tax credits which raises premiums for younger people by 5 times
• Allowing states to opt out of certain insurance rules such as community rating and essential health benefits
• Eliminate individual mandate
• Repeal a variety of taxes and tax increases

In the short-term, these changes appear to boost the economy and create jobs, but according to experts cutting taxes is only a quick fix. The AHCA is set up to cut taxes before federal funding cuts are enacted which will cause a lapse in employment for states that have not received federal dollars.

Because of this Medicaid will be disproportionately affected. For example, in New York, there will be 86,000 jobs lost within the next decade.

For this and many other reasons, Senate Republicans are keeping the revised version of the AHCA a secret from the public and their Democratic colleagues. There will not be any hearings, public or private, on the bill.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said: “We’ll let you see the bill when we finally release it.”

That is not enough for Senator Claire McCaskill who recently blasted Republicans for lying about wanting to share the healthcare process with their friends across the aisle.

McCaskill told Senator Orin Hatch: “We have no idea what’s being proposed. There’s a group of guys in a back room somewhere that are making these decisions. There were no hearings in the House.”
