“Digital Civil War”: Twitter Blocks Users From Posting Link to New York Post Biden Lobbying Story

Facebook is censoring the bombshell New York Post story about Joe Biden’s foreign lobbying scandal by deliberately reducing its spread on the platform.

Earlier today, the newspaper revealed how Hunter Biden had introduced his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, to a top executive in a Ukrainian energy firm a year before Biden pressured the government of Ukraine to fire a prosecutor who was investigating the company.

“The never-before-revealed meeting is mentioned in a message of appreciation that Vadym Pozharskyi, an adviser to the board of Burisma, allegedly sent Hunter Biden on April 17, 2015, about a year after Hunter joined the Burisma board at a reported salary of up to $50,000 a month,” reports the Post.

However, in an effort to prevent the story going viral, Facebook announced that it had deliberately buried the story in its algorithm.

“While I will intentionally not link to the New York Post, I want be clear that this story is eligible to be fact checked by Facebook’s third-party fact checking partners,” tweeted Facebook Policy Communications Manager Andy Stone. “In the meantime, we are reducing its distribution on our platform.”

Senator Josh Hawley swiftly responded by highlighting how the censorship once again underscores how Facebook is not a neutral political entity, yet has such monolithic control over information that burying the story is essentially election meddling.

“So @Facebook is going to actively censor a @nypost investigative story on the Democrat candidate for president. But rest assured, Facebook is a neutral platform with no political viewpoints!” tweeted Hawley.

Hawley also demanded that Facebook explain itself or face an investigation.

“@Facebook I want to know on what grounds you are actively censoring a news report about potentially illegal corruption by the Democrat candidate for president. If you have evidence this is “disinformation,” disclose it immediately. Expect a formal inquiry from my office,” he tweeted.

One wonders if Facebook would have buried the story if it was about President Trump.

I think we all know the answer to that.
