nsnbc : Dozens are feared dead and at least 17 were injured when a passenger plane of US-Bangla Airlines crashed at Nepal’s Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on Monday.
Prem Nath Thakur, spokesperson of the TIA, told reporters that the aircraft belonging to US-Bangla crashed on the area of Tribhuyan International Airport (TIA). He added that firefighters, at the time he spoke to reporters, had started rescue and recovery work. He also said that at least 17 people injured in the incident had been sent to hospitals for treatment.
Raj Kumar Chhetri, TIA General Manage, said, “Over 50 people are feared dead. We are carrying out rescue work. We are collecting details.” The Bombardier Dash Q-400 aircraft, with 67 passengers and four crew members onboard, crashed while landing. The TIA has been closed following the incident. The details of the incident are yet to be ascertained. The US-Bangla Airlines is a privately-owned Bangladeshi airline headquartered in Dhaka. This is a major air crash at the TIA airport after a Turkish Airlines flight crash-landed in March 2015.

In 2015 a US-Bangla Dash 8 Q400 passenger plane skidded off the runway after landing at Seydepur Airport in Bangladesh. Luckily nobody was injured during that “mishap”. The airline blamed “a slippery runway” for the fact that the plane overshot the runway, being stopped – miraculously without injuries to the passengers – when the wheels plowed into the ground.
US-Bangla airlines, praising itself for extraordinary service and quality, has, hours after the crash, not provided any information about the crash on its website. Attempting to reach the website resulted at some occasions in the following message: “Can’t connect securely to this page. This might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings. If this keeps happening, try contacting the website’s owner”. On occasions where the website could be called up it was clear that the airline has also not published a phone number for families and loved ones of passengers on board the plane, or any other relevant information.
