Egypt denies claims political detainees seek to reconcile with the state

An Egyptian security source denied the existence and circulation of a letter calling for reconciliation between political detainees and the regime of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

The source, whose identity was not revealed, accused the Muslim Brotherhood of promoting this story through the media.

This comes after news sites circulated a message attributed to detainees in Wadi Al-Natrun, Tora, Gamasa, Minya and Burj Al-Arab prisons, in which they demanded intervention to end what they described as their suffering and the suffering of their families and children and to save them and save their future from a mysterious fate.

The detainees called for making any possible deal with the state, whether settlement or reconciliation. They added that the legitimacy of the late President Mohamed Morsi ended with his death.

There are roughly 65,000 political prisoners in Egypt who are systematically tortured, denied medical care and suffer with their mental health because of the adverse conditions they are kept in.
