Foiled plot against Venezuela

During an interview with Telesur, the Venezuelan Home Secretary Miguel Rodriguez Torres, gave more details about the failed attempt to destabilize and invade the country, on July 24th.

The matter had been revealed to the public by the president of the National Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, during a special parliament session, July 25th.

According to the minister, the plot’s intent was to assassinate the president, Nicolas Maduro, to smuggle in 800 columbian mercenaries, and to provoke turmoil within the armed forces during a week, in order to justify an international military intervention.

The plot’s leaders were the former columbian president, Álvaro Uribe (current manager of Rupert Murdoch’s group News Corporation) and the honduran ex-putschist Roberto Micheletti (life member of the parliament). The major financing was provided by the Miami realty developer Eduardo Macaya. All of this, under the supervision of the unavoidable Luis Posada Carriles.
