Foreign intervention in Syria blasted

The activists from several countries gathered in Ankara to participate in “Women’s Anti-Imperialism Conference for West Asia Unity.”

The unrest in Syria was one of the main topics discussed in the conference, which was organized by Turkey’s Workers’ Party.

“From the speeches we heard in the conference, we understand that every country should resolve its problems without any foreign interference and we as the Republican People’s Party support the same view,” said Hulya Guven from Republican People’s Party.

Hasan Basri Ozbey, the vice-chairman of the Workers’ Party, said the US’ increasing pressure on Syria comes as part of its efforts to materialize its “Great Middle East” project.

Organizers said the main goal of the meeting is to foil “the imperialist plots” against the Middle East countries by creating unity among the nations of the region, adding that women could play a key role in establishing such a regional unity.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011.

Damascus blames ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups’ for the unrest, asserting that it is being orchestrated from abroad. The West and the Syrian opposition, however, accuse the Syrian government of killing protesters.
