French President François Hollande made these remarks in an interview yesterday before the Nice attack occurred.

“I do not despair of convincing the French people that the future is not in a shrivelled France,” added the head of state. “What threatens us is the rise in populisms, but I will not let myself be intimidated by threats,” he concluded, promising to act “in such a way that the country can have confidence in him.”

It’s also worth recalling this gem from a few weeks ago:

Rightwing extremists kill and injure more people in lone wolf attacks than Islamic terrorists acting alone, according to a report by a security thinktank.

The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in London says in its report Countering Lone Actor Terrorism that rightwing extremists across Europe present a substantial threat to the public that should not be overlooked.

It details the cases of 94 people who were killed and 260 who were injured in attacks by far-right terrorists acting on their own between the start of 2000 and the end of 2014.

In contrast, religiously inspired lone attacks killed 16 and injured 65 people.

Of course the bodycount on which this ridiculous finding was based came from only one attack – that of Anders Breivik.
