Gazan injured in Israeli gunfire

Reports say Israeli troops, backed by tanks and military bulldozers, fired on a Palestinian worker east of the Gaza Strip on Monday.

According to Palestinian sources, Israeli forces also pounded areas near Khan Yunis and Rafah.

No further details were provided.

Palestinian workers collecting stones and other construction materials along the buffer zone in north and eastern Gaza are frequently targeted by Israeli soldiers.

Due to a crippling Israeli blockade, Gazans have no other choice but to obtain the required material for construction work from other buildings that have been destroyed in Israeli attacks.

Defense for Children International documented 14 cases between March and October 2010 of Palestinian youths under the age of 18 who were shot by Israeli forces while collecting gravel in the border zone.

The youngest of these children was 13 and the oldest 17.
