Hamas agrees to de-escalate tension on Gaza borders

Days of Palestine, Gaza Strip -Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas had agreed to de-escalate tension along eastern Gaza borders, informed source said on Sunday.

According to the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity with Days of Palestine, a general agreement was reached after much efforts exerted by international representatives in the area.

“Hamas did not seek war,” the source said, “but it wants Israeli daily violations of the ceasefire be stopped.”

Egyptian intelligence services, the Head of the Qatari Committee for Reconstruction of Gaza Mohamed al-Imadi and the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov were involved in the talks between Hamas and Israeli occupation.

A general agreement has been reached between the warring sides after tremendous mediation effort by international parties in recent days and a great number of messages exchanged via intermediaries.

On Friday, Al-Imadi said extensive efforts were being exerted at that time. He noted that the situation was heading tranquillity.

Meanwhile, Israeli occupation pulled back its forces and military equipment behind the borders towards the Israeli side, Israeli YnetNews reported on Sunday.

This came after five days of tension along the borders, where Hamas military wing Al-Qassam Brigades said that it would not halt its attacks unless when the Israeli forces retreat behind the borders.

One Palestinian woman and a couple of Palestinian youths were wounded during the five-day-escalation.
