Awake Goy Harold C. Harvey (1874 – 1941) was a painter from Cornwall, who often painted surrounding scenery and local working class people. He was part of the Newlyn school, located in a small fishing village of the same name, right next to his birth place of Penzance. He was homeschooled in his early years, trained at the Penzance School of Arts, went abroad to study painting in Paris, and then returned to Penzance. In 1911 he married one of his models, Gertrude Bodinnar, who soon discovered her own artistic talents and became a talented artist in her own right. Harold’s love of his Cornish country and people comes through in his pieces.
