TCP : Head of the Journalists’ Syndicate Yehia Qallash and board member Khaled el-Balshy will be interrogated at the prosecution Sunday for “harboring two people wanted by the police,” Youm7 reported.
Journalists Mahmoud al-Saqqa and Amr Badr were arrested at the press syndicate in Cairo May 1 after they had held a sit-in for a few days.
They face charges of belonging to organizations that aim to change the government, the constitution and the republican system, prevent state institutions from carrying out their duties, harming social peace and disseminating false news.
The arrests followed protests on April 25 against the transfer of two Red Sea islands, Tiran and Sanafir, to Saudi Arabia.
Fury broke out between journalists and the police, after the latter stormed the syndicate’s headquarters to arrest the two journalists over accusations of attempting to overthrow the regime.
In reaction to the syndicate raid, thousands of journalists protested demanding the dismissal of the Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar, and an official presidential apology for the attack.
