High Tech Is Neither Earth Nor Environmentally Friendly

By Catherine J. Frompovich

Earth Day 2018 came and went with no significant discussion(s) about, and pertaining to, high technology devices, microwaves in the Gigahertz and higher ranges—e.g. 6G!, including transmission infrastructures, e.g., cell towers and mini-cell towers for 5G, and implementation protocols which are dangers to the environment, humans, wild animals and plant life, but especially the Planet, Mother Earth!

For all those who think they are “Earth Conscious (EC),” there may be a rather rude awakening ahead once they factor in the negative downsides of what goes into producing high technology and its smart devices, which, actually, when one considers the real environmental impacts, truly are remarkably dumb!

For starters, high tech consumers and EC-humans need to realize the impact(s) of just how much electric power high tech and its smart devices use currently and will use when incremental new smart devices, Internet of Things (IoT) and technological updates increase the negative results in deliberately-ignored ecological impacts!  Ever think of that?

By 2025, only 7-fleeting years away, it is estimated the communications industry could use 20% of the world’s electricity, which will put tremendous strain on power grids especially from “server storage farms,” which store digital data from billions of smart phones, tablets and Internet of Things connected appliances and devices.  How really dumb is that when we are told energy use has to decrease, but the microwave / high tech industry and the federal government are the number one enablers for higher energy demands?

What demands will the government’s Utah Data Center create for all sorts of operating power?  Why are the feds creating more energy demands when ordinary citizens are told to cut back on electricity, and AMI Smart Meters are being implemented by utility companies to help us ‘save’ on electric power usage?  Something doesn’t make sense, does it?

How will all those robots, smart home devices, and wearable technology gadgets everyone is so enamored with run—not on air, but connected to some electrical power?  Ever think of that, EC-humans?

Then there’s the really ugly part of tech devices no one considers and is unethicalchild slave labor in African countries to mine and extract specific earth minerals, which are imperative to high technology.  Those minerals include: Tantalum, Tungsten, Tin, and Gold [1].  Did you know about “17 rare-earth elements that are vital in manufacturing smartphones, plasma screens, wind turbines, satellites and numerous other high-tech products.”? [2] How earth- and environmentally-friendly is that?

Tracing minerals from validated mines has been a Band-Aid solution for more intractable problems like poor governance and the world’s growing desire for these minerals. It was a solution largely financed by the tech industry and the U.S. government, which both have an incentive to keep the stream of minerals flowing. [3]

Furthermore, have independent—not microwave industry-vested-interest—studies confirmed human health safety, specifically lung function and immunological sensitives, for those rare-earth elements when they heat up inside high tech devices and gas off particulates humans and pets are forced to breathe?

Then there’s 6G decorously labeled “6Genesis,” which will operate in the Terahertz (THz) mega range of extremely high microwave frequencies.

THz, is a unit of electromagnetic (EM) wave frequency equal to one trillion hertz (1012 Hz).

The terahertz is used as an indicator of the frequency of infrared (IR), visible, and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. [4]   [That’s oscillations per SECOND!]

The Electromagnetic Spectrum Chart depicted at Wikipedia indicates just how close THz waves are to Ionizing radiation, and no one is sounding the alarm on a run-away-train technology—the microwave and smart tech industries—in producing extremely life-threatening radiation.

For health purposes, consumers are warned about using sun screen to protect against the sun’s rays.

Will THz mandate sun screen or God-only-knows-what to protect humans from THz rays?

Like everything in life, there are two or more sides to all issues.  However, downplaying or deliberately ignoring probable catastrophic downsides of microwave technology running amok is nothing short of corporate or military irresponsibility, or possible eugenics no one is recognizing, in this writer’s opinion.
