If, Meanwhile the Fire is Burning

Fire. Fire keeps you warm, especially for the cold long winters. In Greek Mythology fire was brought to man as a gift. It was a symbol for enlightenment. When us humans harvest fire, we can do anything. Fire can burn in your stomach when you are filled with righteous anger. Families and friends bond over fire. With fire you can create, build, innovate! But also with fire, one can destroy.

Fire, much of the time these days, is being used to destroy us. The ways in which this is happening are: with smoking, forest fires, burning “witches” (in the past), burning civilians alive (in Germany, Serbia, Palestine, etc.), and the freaks in Hollywood, DC, Madison Ave, and China doing unspeakable horrors to children.

Fire is a double edged sword. Surt’s sword, it burns the nine worlds. Then when the fires smolder out, a new world is created. We must again harness the flames, literally and figuratively.

I once came across an old English phrase:

In this fire has a metaphysical significance. It symbolizes the will and spirit of a people. The fire must keep burning if our tribe is going to live on. Just like the sun must stay lit for life to continue on earth. We must harness the fire for productive means. Make are righteous anger towards our enemy constructive. Use fire for blót to bond with one another, and with the gods. Bring enlightenment to one another. And finally to keep our spirit and will burning.
