In Service to Nature: Viktor Schauberger, “The Water Magician”

You’ve heard of Nikola Tesla right? He is the Serbian-American who invented among other things: radio, the fluorescent light, the hydroelectric dam, the a/c motor, remote control and even grid power. Tesla is the one who had his laboratory burnt down, his funding cut and the brilliant man who fed pigeons in Central Park during his latter years.

Nikola is arguably the most influential person in the modern world, so why is he scarcely mentioned in textbooks to this day? Most know the name Tesla now, if only because of the car, but for a time his name was mostly preserved by colloquial exchange not official history. Do you know that Tesla has a contemporary in Europe who was involved in equally revolutionary work? Though few have heard it before, the man’s name is Viktor Schauberger, and Viktor worked with water.

Schauberger was born in Holzschlag, Upper Austria in 1885. His father and grandfather were both foresters, and Viktor too followed the path and became the head forest warden for Prince Adolph van Schaumburg-Lippe in 1920. As Viktor roamed remote unspoiled mountainsides, through observation, intuition and heritage, he grew to understand how energy flows through the hydraulic vortexes of alpine lakes and streams.

Viktor used this knowledge to build a series of log flumes to enable efficient access to the high-mountain timber for the first time, but soon realized, due to industrial forest and water management practices, the energy of these systems was being quickly diminished. He foresaw the catastrophic environmental emergency that we face today in the 1920s.

Viktor Schauberger devoted his life to bridling the healing properties and energies of living water. When he died in 1958, the Russian army ransacked his apartment and blew it up just as the FBI seized the entire Tesla estate upon his death. (And none other than President Donald Trump’s Uncle was called in to analyze the bounty.) Both men freely offered a new path for all life, and both of these natural tacks were shut down by powerful interests, made secret and all but scrubbed from history. Both men died broken, overcome by the obstacles. Luckily, the pair are remembered in spite of this, and many attempt to reconstruct their work.
