Int’l organizations praise Iran’s humanitarian efforts: Official

April 27, The Iran Project – An Iranian official says international organization hails Iran’s humanitarian efforts due to the country’s educational services to refugees’ children.

Following Supreme Leader’s order not to deprive Afghan children, even undocumented or illegal ones, from education, 77 thousand students of the families of illegal nationals have been enrolled in Iranian schools.

Touching upon Iran’s humanitarian efforts for refugees and immigrants, the managing director of Iranian Interior Ministry’s Bureau for Aliens and Foreign Immigrants (BAFIA), Ahmad Mohammadi-Far, said on Thursday that according to international organizations, Iran provides unique service to refugees.

Approximately 18 thousand refugee students are now studying in Iranian universities and about 40 thousand graduates are from the families of foreign nationals, Mohammadi-Far noted.

He also referred to livelihood support, not taking tuition from nationals and refugees, and offering cultural and sporting services as the other unique services Iran provides the refugees with.

Moreover, speaking about the insurance for foreigners in Iran, he stated that we have been able to provide insurance for almost all refugees.

In a meeting with Chief Executive Officer of the Afghanistan’s government, Abdullah Abdullah, in January 2016, Ayatollah Khamenei ordered that all Afghan children in Iran be permitted schooling regardless of their residency status.

Also, in an address to the UN General Assembly’s first-ever summit for Refugees and Migrants in September 2016, Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli pointed to a massive influx of refugees from the neighboring countries of Afghanistan and Iraq and said the Islamic Republic has been hosting a huge population of refugees for many years, a move that has put Iran “among the lead countries in the history of humanitarian assistance.”
