Iran FM reiterates Iran’s support for Syria peace talks

Tehran, April 10, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reaffirmed Iran’s support for peace talks between Syrian government and the opposition, saying that all things should take place on the basis of support for the country’s sovereignty and the Syrian people’s resolve.

In a meeting with the Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of Finnish Parliament Antti Kaikkonen, he added that Iran welcomes the current developments in favor of ceasefire in Yemen.

‘We believe that military approach is not the solution to the crisis in the impoverished country,’ he said.

Referring to the developments unfolding in Yemen, Iraq and Syria, Zarif said that threats of extremism will be removed only through practical measures and real resolve for blocking the movement of the extremists and terrorist groups.

Hailing Iran-Finland ties, he hoped that mutual cooperation will further improve due to the efforts of the parliaments of the two countries.

Kaikkonen, for his part, said that Finland has had excellent ties with Iran and it is interested in taking new steps in line with boosting parliamentary, economic and cultural cooperation in the post-sanctions era.

The official also hoped that Finish parliamentary delegation’s trip to Iran will help promote bilateral relations
