Iran, Iraq defense ministers discuss bilateral ties

IRNA – Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami talked with his Iraqi counterpart Major General Erfan al-Hiyali over phone on Monday.

During the telephone conversation, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties and provide security and protection for pilgrims of Arbaeen Rituals.

General Hatami extended his congratulations on the recent victories of Iraqi army and volunteer forces in the war against terrorism and underlined Tehran’s intention to bolster ties.

He also appreciated round-the-clock efforts of the Iraqi forces to provide security for pilgrims.

General al-Hiyali, for his part, extended his congratulations on the appointment of General Hatami and appreciated Tehran’s support for the Iraqi government and nation in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

He invited Iranian counterpart to pay visit to Iraq.
