Iran ready to cooperate with Pakistan to help Afghan peace process

Tehran, March 26, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday that Iran is ready to cooperate with Pakistan to help the peace process in Afghanistan as he and the Pakistani prime minister had discussed the case in their Friday’s meeting.

The president, who is on a visit to Pakistan, made the remarks in a press conference in the Pakistani capital.

He said that Iran and Pakistan, as two main countries of the Muslim world, have always held discussions on Afghanistan.

Rouhani said that during their Friday meeting, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called for trilateral talks between Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan that was agreed by him.

Asked to comment about the recent tensions in Iran’s relations with Saudi Arabia, Rouhani said that Tehran is not for continuation of tensions with Riyadh.

Iran is a big power in the region and the Muslim world and Saudi Arabia, too, plays a significant role in the Muslim world, the president said, adding that the problem between the two countries have to be resolved.

Iran has always welcomed mediation by other countries, including Pakistan, to help deescalate tensions between Tehran and Riyadh, Rouhani said.
