Awake Goy Tehran, June 11, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari on Saturday rebuked Canadian government for seizing Iranian assets saying it runs counter to Canadian statement to normalize bilateral relations.
He said that based on the reports available, the Canadian Ontario Supreme Court issued a political ruling to confirm a verdict for confiscation of 13 million dollars of Iranian asset on the baseless allegation that Iran supported terrorist groups.
He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran takes the move as a new step in line with the hostile policies of the former extremist government of Canada, which collapsed in elections.
He said that recognition and enforcement of the politically motivated and in absentia rulings of the US courts, which have been confirmed by the Supreme Court of the said state of Canada, runs in contradiction with the international commitments of the Canadian government per the principles and rules of the international law on judicial immunity of governments and their properties.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the act is in contradiction with statement of the new government of Canada willing to normalize bilateral relations and making up for the extremist policies of the former government of Canada.
Jaberi Ansari said that Iran emphasized in talks with the Canadian officials formerly, it is re-emphasized that any move for normalization of diplomatic relations between the two countries will be possible in light of dramatic reconsideration of the former extremist and wrong policies of the Canadian government, including violation of the judicial immunity of Iranian government.’
He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran dismissed the ruling of the Ontario State’s Supreme Court ruling and reminded the Canadian government about the International Responsibility of Canadian Government to protect Iran’s property in the country.
The Islamic Republic of Iran holds the Canadian government responsible for ignoring the commitments.
He said Iran will reserve the right to take necessary measures to restore its legal rights, seeking compensation for the damages inflicted on Iranian properties.
