Iran to hold Reuters case 2nd trial

Director General of Foreign Media Affairs at Iran’s Ministry of Culture and the Islamic Guidance Mohammad Javad Aqajari said on Wednesday that the female Iranian martial artists have taken legal action against the Reuters for its report defaming them as terrorists.

He added that the first trial session of the Reuters bureau chief was held in a Tehran court last week.

The Iranian official noted that Reuters bureau chief Parisa Hafezi will appear before the court, adding that the court will make the decision about the potential resumption of the news agency’s work in Tehran.

Aqajari emphasized that the press activities of Reuters in Tehran have been temporarily suspended, saying the agency’s staff has no permission to carry out activities at present.

On February 18, Reuters showed a number of Iranian girls practicing martial arts in a city near Tehran, claiming Iran was training more than 3,000 female ninjas to kill any possible foreign invaders.

The report claimed that the athletes are undercover assassins in the service of the Islamic Republic.

The athletes have condemned the report, saying the misleading video can definitely be a problem for their professional sports career.
