Iranian MPs call on President to react to US breaches of JCPOA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A group of Iranian lawmakers called on President Hassan Rouhani to unequivocally react to recent anti-Tehran sanctions imposed by Washington, describing them as new breaches of the July 2015 nuclear deal between the Islamic Republic and world powers (known as JCPOA).

Washington’s imposition of new sanctions, repeated breaches of JCPOA provisions repeatedly, and disruption of Iran’s banking and financial transactions on tehone hand and the continuous concern expressed by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei on the other raise the question as to why no decisive action is taken by the Committee to Monitor the Implementation of JCPOA, the MPs said in a note of caution addressed to President Rouhani on Tuesday.

“The agreement (JCPOA) is not supposed to be unilateral,” they said, calling on the Rouhani administration to show “an unequivocal reaction” and take preventive measures and even to halt the implementation of the nuclear deal in case of repetition of such breaches by the US.

On Saturday night, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyed Abbas Araqchi had described as “insufficient” the measures adopted by the United States to facilitate the full implementation of the JCPOA.

“On the lifting of sanctions, we are faced with operational problems,” Araqchi said in a televised interview with the IRIB.

“Americans are not doing enough to facilitate the process, and we expect them to do their commitments for the full implementation of the JCPOA,” he went on to say.

Currently, Iran’s banking system is not as operational as expected to be after the termination of the sanctions, said Araqchi, who also heads a committee set up to monitor the JCPOA implementation.

The Western side should accelerate the process, he urged, calling on the US Treasury to abandon its mischievous approach.
