Iranian speaker felicitates Muslim counterparts, figures on start of Ramadan

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani extended congratulations to his Muslim counterparts and other Islamic figures on the start of the holy month of Ramadan, and called for strengthening unity and solidarity among Muslims worldwide.

In separate messages on Tuesday, Larijani felicitated his Muslim counterparts and other prominent Islamic figures on the auspicious occasion.

He expressed the hope that during the holy month of Ramadan, all Islamic states would witness strengthening of brotherhood, friendship and solidarity.

“I strongly believe that passing through the current difficult and regrettable crises in the Muslim world and reaching sustainable stability, security and tranquility depends on strengthening cooperation, solidarity and integrity among the Muslim states based on mutual understanding and respect,” Larijani said in his message.

“The strategic interests of all Islamic states depend on fighting against insecurity, extremist-Takfiri thoughts and terrorist groups and avoiding differences and strife,” he added.

Ramadan is the ninth month on the Islamic calendar. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, smoking, and indulging in anything that is in excess or ill-natured; from dawn until sunset.

Fasting is meant to teach Muslims patience, modesty and spirituality. Ramadan is a time to fast for the sake of Allah, and to offer more prayer than usual.

This year, the Iranian people started the holy month of Ramadan on Tuesday.
