Iran’s Salehi arrives in Kazakhstan

Salehi was greeted on arrival at the airport by Kazakh deputy transportation minister and Iran’s Ambassador to Astana Ghorban Seifi early Wednesday morning and is due to participate in the meeting with Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov later in the day.

During the official visit, the Iranian foreign minister will also hold talks with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, and Transportation Minister Serik Akhmetov.

The eleventh joint economic cooperation commission meeting between the two countries was held in April 2009 in Tehran.

A memorandum of understanding was signed by the Iranian foreign minister and Kazakh transportation and communications minister during the 2009 meeting.

Kazakhstan, considered a target market for Iranian export products, is a transcontinental country in Central Asia and Europe. With a land area of 2,727,300 square kilometers, it is the ninth largest country in the world and has common borders with Russia, China, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
