Israel kidnapped 8 Palestinian women, girls in May

Israeli occupation kidnapped eight Palestinian women and girls in May, the Palestinian Committee of Prisoners’ Affairs said in a statement on Saturday.

The youngest among them, the statement said, was the 14-year-old Malak al-Ghalith from al-Jalazun refugee camp in the central occupied West Bank district of Ramallah.

Malak was kidnapped on May 28 at the Israeli military checkpoint of Qalandiya for allegedly attempting to carry out a stabbing attack.

Israeli occupation forces pepper-sprayed the young girl before locking her inside a container for two hours, where Israeli soldiers insulted, cursed and laughed at her while taking pictures of her, according to lawyers for the committee Hanan al-Khatib and Hiba Masalha.

The lawyers reported that Malak was interrogated for four hours before being transferred to the Israeli prison of HaSharon.

Some 59 Palestinian women are currently enduring hard times inside the Israeli occupation jails, the statement said, noting that nine are minors.

Meanwhile, the lawyers Al-Khatib and Masalha added that “brutal sentences” were also recently issued by the Israeli occuaption against Palestinian women and girls.

They mentioned Nurhan Awwad, who had a 13-year prison sentence, as an example. Nurhan was 16 years old when she was kidnapped after being shot and critically injured – alongside her 14-year-old cousin who was killed.
