Israel settlers raid West Bank village

At least two Palestinians have been injured in the latest attack by extremist Israeli settlers on villagers in the occupied West Bank.

The violence happened in the village of Huwwara near the city of Nablus on Friday, when a group of 20 Israeli settlers assaulted the Palestinians with iron rods.

The attackers left one Palestinian with a broken leg and the other with severe bruising.

Both victims have been transferred to a Nablus hospital for treatment.

Israeli settlers regularly attack the village, burning cars and uprooting olive trees.

In 2013, there were nearly 400 incidents of settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

In over 90 percent of the case, perpetrators of such attacks are not punished.

The United Nations regards the Israeli settlements as illegal because the territories were captured in the 1967 war and are hence subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbid construction on occupied lands.
