Israel to hinder UNESCO vote on Al-Aqsa Mosque

Israeli occupation has been putting much pressure to undermine UNESCO vote on joint Jordanian-Palestinian draft resolution denying a Jewish connection with Al-Aqsa Mosque.

According to the Israeli news website Ynet News, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) is set to vote on the draft resolution during the 40th annual meeting of the organisation’s World Heritage Committee which consists of 21 representatives.

The draft resolution denies Jewish connection to all facilities in the holy compound of Al-Aqsa Mosque, including Al-Buraq Wall or what the Israel Jews call it the Western Wall.

The resolution calls on Israel to return Al-Aqsa Mosque to the status of pre-1967. It also accuses Israel of causing damage to Islamic holy sites.

Ynet News said that Israeli “is seeking to exert greater pressure on the member states in an effort to prevent a recurrence of what took place in April when the committee unilaterally condemned ‘Israeli aggression’ on Al-Aqsa Mosque and disregarded all Israeli or Jewish claims over the area.”

It also noted that a similar attempt in October 2015 failed when it was brought before the organisation.
