Israeli-Brazilian ties deteriorate over Israeli violations

Days of Palestine, Jerusalem –Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu decided Wednesday to downgrade diplomatic ties with Brazil over the latter’s refusal to approve settler ambassador.

The Israeli government led by the right-winger Netanyahu chose the former leader of illegal Israeli settlement council Dani Dayan an Israeli ambassador to Brazil, which refused him after national Brazilian objection.

Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post reported the Israeli TV Channel 2 quoting Netanyahu saying: “If Brazil won’t approve former settler leader Dani Dayan as its ambassador, Israel won’t offer another diplomat.”

Channel 2 reported that Netanyahu as a foreign minister insisted on keeping Dayan nomination and he would not name another Israeli for this position at all.

Officials from the Israeli foreign ministry accused Brazil of “personal boycott” with Dayan after a group of 40 retired Brazilian diplomats signed a statement against his appointment.

Dayan also said: “To be an ambassador or not, it is not the question for me, but if this was not, will 700,000 Israeli [settlers] be banned from working in embassies?”

He added: “Like objection of labelling Israeli products, Israel must object labelling persons.”
